Art and Archaeology: The Rest of the Story
Art and Archaeology - an unlikely combination? This Spring, Erin worked as an Artist-in-Residence to bring Art to a high school Archaeology classroom.
Partnering with veteran high school teacher Lee Preston, Erin guided the students though a series of acitvities over 8 weeks. First - a field trip to a historic archaeological dig site, where the students chose their own particular artifact to take back to the classroom for further study. They learned observation, composition, printmaking and drawing techniques, kept a sketchbook of their journey, and finally created a final collage based on their artifact. Their work can be seen on display at the Patapsco Female Institute in Ellicott City, MD.
The project, sponsored by the Sheridan Foundation, though Young Audiences of Maryland, took place at River Hill High School. Read more about the project in a Howard County Times online article here. |
